Period 1 - Semester Final

1. My favorite photo from the Lens slideshow provided is photo number one, because the photo has a good background, it catches the smoke trail as it comes out, and it also uses the rule of leading lines which is one of my three rules.

2. The best photo in the slideshow would be photo number nine. This picture is the best because it gets a perfect silhouette of the deer as well as the bird on its back, it demonstrates depth of field with the tree line at the top, and the photographer was also able to get close enough to take this photo without startling the deer and causing it to run away.

3. My best work this year would have to be a picture that I had taken of Gurbazz Brar. I believe that this photo was the best because I was able to catch the essence of our conversation well,  it was a very clear picture with Gurbazz in focus, and had a good background of the sky. If I had more time I would have liked to catch the picture in a similar fashion, same expression and motion naturally except this time without all the clutter in the background as well as my own shadow in the picture. I would also like the get the person he was talking to completely in the picture as well.

4. My three rules of composition are Rule of Diagonals, Background, and Leading Lines.

5.  This picture of Brian shows both leading lines and rule of diagonals.

6. Mr. Farley's first rule of photography is to Get Closer/Communicate.

7. Some benefits of working in a group include different perspectives, we are able to keep each other in check and on task, we can finish work faster in a group, pose for pictures, and give support when needed.

8. Unfortunately working with groups also has some disadvantages such as: getting distracted by one another, occasionally being slowed down by just one member of the group, disputes over what seems better, sometimes peoples moods, and occasionally a mix up of work.

9. My favorite project produced by another person in this class would be the First Picture on James Qiao's Third photo assignment post. This photo was one of the first few we took together as a group.

10. My master photographer was Eugene Atget and he had taken pictures of many streets in Paris before they were remodeled. His pictures were used as a photographic record of the original Paris streets.

11. Dorothea Lange's Migrant Mothers photo was her most popular photo, it was taken in 1936 at Nipomo, California while working for the Resettlement Administration.

12. Life magazine was first published November 23, 1936.

13. Elvis Presley was born January 8, 1935.

14. Robert Capa co-founded Magnum Photos in 1947.

Masters of Photography Project Reflection

The project shows that as a student of photography I still have a long way to go. In the beginning of the year I saw photography as just something fun to do, a hobby, throughout the year our class has been taught rules of photography, camera functions, how to properly use lighting and much more. We have also learned about famous photographers such as Dorothea Lange, and Robert Capa who have become famous thanks to all their hard work in pursuing their art.Working in a group allows us to check up on each other and make sure we are all on task and doing the assignment properly, however a downside is that we can occasionally be slowed down by other members of the group. I feel that for the project I should have surveyed more areas around the city to get better shots that could look more like Eugene Atget's and would have spent even more time editing them.
